Two-toned kitchens and warm natural selections – like clay, copper, gold, henna, and ginger are becoming a hot choice selection for next season. Nature influence and reflections in coloring may be expected to have a strong stand next season – from the terracotta colored soil up to the green hues of the wilderness. There are signs that for the third year in a row the dark hues and tonalities will have a significant presence in the modern kicked color palette.
Before you head to your local paint supplier and mix up a new kitchen palette, it pays to know a little bit about color theory. The idea got its start with Sir Isaac Newton, who described three primary colors of light — red, green and blue — and developed the color wheel. Colors across from each other on the wheel canceled out when mixed, producing grey, black or white. This bears some similarity to the concept of complementary colors; warm shades such as yellow or orange have complementary cool colors like green or purple, which provide a striking visual look when paired but aren't overwhelming.
In general, the bolder the veining on your counters, the less drama you’ll want to add elsewhere. This waterfall counter (with the material wrapped down the sides) is relatively muted, but the large gray veins still bring enough character without any daring colors or other statement features.
Like most homeowners, you probably think of cabinet color in terms of wood type. For example, think “cherry wood,” and a color will likely come to mind. But don’t forget that there are color options beyond wood species and stain.
