Color is the easiest way to turn a kitchen (or indeed any room) around. Pick up a paintbrush and in half a day you can go from drab to fab, or instantly transform the space with accessories and artwork in off-the-radar hues. People often get stuck in a kitchen color rut for some reason, opting for the same old subdued palette of pale neutrals. I’m in the “dare to be different” decorating camp. I’m evangelical about intoxicating, lavish colour—not to be gimmicky or quirky but because it’s the biggest game changer I know.
Here is one magnificent contemporary example of the two-toned kitchen design – the saffron yellow of the comfy kitchen islands (with a horizontal bar that allows the guest to be included in the food preparation proses) is in beautiful juxtaposition with the muted grays of the concrete base of the composition.
Because much of your wall space tends to be covered by cabinets, backsplashes and appliances, the remaining areas offer a perfect opportunity for a bold accent wall color, without the risk of dominating the room.
Just remember, a darker floor color will tend to visually feel closer, while a lighter floor will appear to recede. So if you have a small kitchen space, you may want to consider a color that creates the feeling of a more expansive space.
