Before you head to your local paint supplier and mix up a new kitchen palette, it pays to know a little bit about color theory. The idea got its start with Sir Isaac Newton, who described three primary colors of light — red, green and blue — and developed the color wheel. Colors across from each other on the wheel canceled out when mixed, producing grey, black or white. This bears some similarity to the concept of complementary colors; warm shades such as yellow or orange have complementary cool colors like green or purple, which provide a striking visual look when paired but aren't overwhelming.
This room is practical, as it helps us cook up nourishment for our bodies, but it also serves as a place to nourish the soul. In the midst of the practical, the kitchen turns into a social space. We sit here for breakfast with our loved ones, chat with friends over lunch, and catch up with our partner while making dinner after work.
